Cambrian, Hongkong,

For September, 1848.

When I learnt the extent of the devastation caused by the late gale at the Storehouses, I directed the Storekeeper to apply without loss of time for an increase of Police or Watchmen - the only Guard at present procurable, and which had been ordered by Your Excellency for the protection of the Stores, at the time the Military Guard was removed.

I have this morning received the reply to this requisition, in which it is stated by the Superintendent -

His Excellency Sir Bonham, Esq. C.B.
